Under the general direction of the Special Operations Division Chief and the direct supervision of the Training Captain during orientations and academies, the Training & Recruitment Coordinator coordinates, implements, and delivers entry-level and lateral-hire District training programs and activities. The Training Coordinator evaluates the effectiveness of these programs to ensure proficiency in applying firefighting techniques and procedures. The Recruitment & Training Coordinator supervises and evaluates recruits during orientation programs and/or fire academy training.
The Recruitment & Training Coordinator serves as the district’s recruitment coordinator, ensuring that local individuals and groups can learn about firefighting careers and the overall hiring process within the Eagle River Fire Protection District. The Recruitment & Training Coordinator regularly organizes and facilitates ERFPD career information sessions and participates in community events throughout the district and surrounding communities. The Recruitment & Training Coordinator also collaborates with local and regional school districts and colleges to develop strategies to attract highly qualified applicants.
The position follows a semi-flexible 40-hour workweek, with the schedule coordinated with the Special Operations Division Chief. Limited remote work is permitted when appropriate and approved by the Special Operations Division Chief.

External candidates who are provided a conditional offer must complete a pre-employment medical and psychological evaluation, in addition to an extensive background investigation. External candidates must provide proof of successful completion of the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). The CPAT must have been completed within the year prior to the date of the final offer.
General Statement of Duties- Under the general supervision of the Special Operations Division Chief and the direct supervision of the Training Captain, the Recruitment & Training Coordinator will coordinate and deliver Fire District and fire academy orientation programs.
- Enter and maintain appropriate new hire training records.
- Assist the hiring group in the planning and coordination of ERFPD’s hiring process for entry-level recruits and lateral recruits.
- Continually monitor and assist recruits’ advancement through the application and hiring process.
- Routinely coordinate and host ERFPD career information sessions.
- Routinely and regularly participate in community events held throughout the district and neighboring communities to recruit entry-level and lateral firefighter candidates.
- Works with local high schools and colleges to develop strategies to reach quality entry-level candidates.
- Participates in the District’s retention efforts.
- Assists with maintaining District facilities and equipment. Assists with the maintenance and upkeep of the training grounds, facilities, and equipment.
- Working knowledge of Emergency Medical Services. Knowledge of emergency care practices and procedures, including EMS incident management practices.
- EMS Program Management, including but not limited to continued education and certification renewals.
- Obtains and maintains a sound knowledge of both Districts’ geography and target hazards.
- Establishes and maintains positive, effective working relationships with other employees, District officials, and other emergency service providers in the area.
- Consistently demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, and competency as a representative of the Eagle River Fire Protection District.
- Identifies opportunities for improving work methods and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Works both collaboratively as part of a team and independently when necessary.
- Operates power tools to construct training props.
- The Training Coordinator may occasionally respond to emergency scenes as a Firefighter, Driver/Operator, or Company Officer as qualified.
