What you will be doing:

This position serves as the designated state administrator of the statewide summative assessments required under state laws and regulations and the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as reauthorized in the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). This position coordinates with the assessment leads of all statewide assessments to help coordinate efforts regarding consistent communication with districts. The incumbent is responsible for procedures that address the secure and standardized administration of assessments to all students in Alaska.

In addition, this position oversees updates and revisions to statewide content area standards, standards alignment in assessment, support to districts in implementation of standards and assessment, and support to districts in standards aligned curriculum adoption.

The ideal candidate to join our friendly, hard-working team has a strong education background, skills in leading project management, and a disposition of service. The incumbent supervises the work of 6 staff, (four Education Specialist 2's, one Education Associate 3, and one Education Associate 2.

The Division of Innovation and Education Excellence is seeking an Education Administrator II to join the highly-collaborative Standards and Assessments team that leads the work of implementing Alaska's statewide assessments and supports districts in ensuring curriculum is aligned to state academic standards.

This position is part of a small, high-functioning team. Our offices are conveniently located on the 9th floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau, or in the Atwood building in Anchorage. The position has the opportunity for flexible scheduling and teleworking to promote work/life balance. There are multiple travel opportunities associated with this job both in and out of state.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

K-12

Education:

Knowledge of the concepts, principals, theories, methods, and practices of planning, teaching and evaluating an assigned K-12 public education content area. Integrates best practices with subject matter expertise to develop resources, inform policy implementation, provide technical assistance, and support continuous improvement. Provides guidance and consultation to school districts and/or stakeholders while advancing statewide education priorities.

Contract/Procurement:

Knowledge of various types of contracts, techniques or requirements (for example, Federal Acquisitions Regulations) for contracting or procurement, and contract negotiation and administration.

Project Management:

Knowledge of the principles, methods, or tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects and resources, including monitoring and inspecting costs, work and contractor performance

Supervision

:
Plans, distributes, and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Assignments include the authority and responsibility to recommend or independently take action to employ (i.e., appoint, transfer, promote), discipline or discharge, or adjudicate grievances of direct reports.
