Overview

The Secondary Teacher, Science (6-8) will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective science instruction to students in grades 6-8 through our virtual platform. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various scientific disciplines, excellent communication and technology skills, and a passion for fostering a positive online learning environment. Responsibilities include curriculum implementation, assessment, individualized support, and collaboration to ensure student success.

Duties
  • Deliver engaging and interactive live virtual lessons aligned with Tennessee Science Standards for grades 6-8.
  • Utilize diverse online teaching methods, resources, and technologies to meet varied learning styles and needs.
  • Develop and deliver asynchronous learning activities, including interactive assignments, projects, and discussions.
  • Provide timely and clear feedback on student work to enhance understanding and growth.
  • Facilitate small group instruction and offer individualized student support.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress.
  • Implement the Stellar Virtual science curriculum effectively and adapt instruction to individual student needs.
  • Develop and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor learning and inform instruction.
  • Analyze student data to identify learning gaps and adjust teaching strategies.
  • Collaborate with curriculum specialists and other teachers to enhance the science curriculum.
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with students and parents regarding progress, assignments, and concerns.
  • Respond promptly to student and parent inquiries via email, phone, and virtual meetings.
  • Support on-site testing events periodically throughout the year (required).
  • Participate in virtual professional development and collaborate with colleagues on online teaching best practices.
  • Work collaboratively with student support services (e.g., counselors, special education) to address student needs.
  • Attend virtual staff meetings and contribute to the overall success of Stellar Virtual.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Minimum of two (2) years of successful teaching experience, preferably in a secondary setting.
  • Experience teaching a range of secondary science courses (e.g., General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science).
  • Demonstrated experience using online learning platforms and educational technology.
  • Proven experience working independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to manage a digital task list and maintain a stable remote (home-office) infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience using the Google Workspace suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Workspace) in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas via written channels with high clarity and low ambiguity.
  • Access to a private, reliable, and secure high-speed internet connection with a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload speeds.
  • Passion for working with students and fostering their academic growth in science.
  • Residency in the state of Tennessee is required.
Education & Certification Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field.
  • A valid Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement in Secondary Science (grades 6-8) or equivalent.
