Job Description

Summary:

Develop and maintain geology museum as a learning environment to enhance understanding of modern geological concepts and issues. Organize and host museum visits, perform outreach, teach geology courses, pursue funding, and manage museum resources.

Job Description Essential Duties:
  • Museum Operations and Development:
    Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Limper Geology Museum including: designing and implementing displays for museum and hallway cases; stewardship and management of mineral, rock, and fossil collections of the museum and department; improving specimen accessibility to external researchers (25%).
  • Undergraduate Education - Teach approximately one course per semester, usually an introductory geosciencecourse or an undergraduate course for the geology or environmental earth science major. (25%).
  • Community Outreach and Teacher

    Education:

    Develop, coordinate, and participate in outreach activities tolocal schools, organizations, and other venues in conjunction with other museums at Miami University; participate in departmental efforts to teach and train earth science educators in the regional geology and fossil record of southwestern Ohio; serve as department point of contact for geoscience-related questions and identification of geological specimens from the general public (25%).
  • Website Curation and Outreach through Social Media:
    Curate and update the website for the Limper Museum and engage in public outreach through social media (15%).
  • Fundraising:
    Actively engage in fundraising activities to support museum collections, displays, and providestudent internship opportunities (10%).
Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

Master's degree in the geosciences or related field and experience working with geology and paleontology collections.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of geological concepts and familiarity with the regional rock and fossil record of southwest Ohio.
  • Be able to develop inter-collaborations,and communicate such concepts in an engaging, clear, and concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral or Professional degree

This is a 10-month position with a salary range of $67,000 - $69,000.
