Assistant Director

The Assistant Director of the Health Professions Advising Center ( HPAC ), under the direction of the Director of HPAC , will be responsible for efforts to advance the career success of pre-health students and alumni. The Assistant Director coordinates the Certificate in Biomedical Sciences post-baccalaureate program; supervises the HPAC student worker; represents HPAC at university events and cultivates relationships with campus partners;

advises current students and alumni; and performs other duties as assigned in support of HPAC’s mission.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related field and three plus years relevant professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Three years of experience in health professions advising, career advising, or a related student services field.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and professionally with students and families, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders.
• Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with campus partners and visitors from different backgrounds.
• Ability to manage sensitive information with a high degree of confidentiality and discretion in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).
• Ability to effectively address student concerns and complex advising situations.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Train and supervise an HPAC student worker responsible for front desk operations and visitor reception.
• Develop and maintain relationships with admissions representatives and leaders at health professions schools and programs to remain informed about evolving admissions requirements, trends, and best practices.
• Present applicant support seminars, workshops, and informational sessions for pre-health students and alumni.
• Represent HPAC at campus partner events, student organization meetings, recruitment activities, and other outreach initiatives, including occasional evening and weekend events.
• Advise and mentor pre-health students and alumni through individual appointments, group advising sessions, and programming.
• Coordinate all aspects of the Certificate in Biomedical Sciences post-baccalaureate program, including student support, course enrollment and planning, career advising, and informational communications.
• Assist the Director with departmental operations, office management, strategic initiatives, budget planning, and special projects.
• Serve as staff advisor for a student organization.

Remote Work Notice

After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
