Description

Position Summary

HCI College is seeking an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technology professional to teach online courses in its Associate of Science BMET program. The instructor will facilitate engaging, applied learning; connect technical concepts to healthcare technology practice; provide timely feedback; and support students as they prepare for careers in biomedical equipment and healthcare technology management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned online BMET courses in accordance with approved syllabi, course outcomes, and institutional policies.
  • Facilitate asynchronous instruction through recorded content, readings, discussions, applied assignments, projects, assessments, and virtual student support.
  • Use the College learning management system and Microsoft communication tools to post materials, maintain an accurate gradebook, document attendance and engagement, and communicate with students.
  • Respond to student questions within 24 hours, excluding weekends; providing timely, constructive feedback on student progress.
  • Use current BMET examples involving safety, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, service documentation, equipment lifecycle management, software, networking, and related healthcare technology practices.
  • Monitor student participation and performance, identify students at risk, conduct outreach, document early alerts, and implement student-success action plans.
  • Maintain scheduled virtual office hours and provide one-on-one assistance as needed.
  • Participate in faculty orientation, learning management system training, meetings, professional development, course review, and accreditation activities as assigned.
  • Maintain required faculty records and comply with institutional, governmental, and accreditation standards.
Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in biomedical equipment technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, electronics, electrical/electronic engineering technology, engineering technology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of four years of related practical work experience in the BMET subject area(s) assigned.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biomedical equipment service, maintenance, safety, troubleshooting, documentation, or healthcare technology management.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to teach and support students in an online environment.
  • Ability to provide official transcripts and documentation of relevant employment, certifications, licenses, and professional development.
Alternative Qualification Review

Candidates without a related bachelor’s degree may be considered only when the institution determines that a documented regulatory exception is applicable. Such a review requires evidence of alternative expertise, which may include related post-secondary education, professional certification or licensure, and significant directly related work experience. Appointment remains subject to institutional and regulatory approval.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher specifically in BMET, biomedical technology, electronics, EET, or a related technical field in addition to substantial BMET experience.
  • CBET, CABT, CompTIA A+, Network+, manufacturer training, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience training, mentoring, supervising, or teaching technicians or adult learners.
  • Postsecondary or online teaching experience and familiarity with asynchronous learning.
  • Experience with DICOM, medical-device connectivity, healthcare technology software, cybersecurity, imaging systems, preventive maintenance, or equipment lifecycle management.
Work Environment and Expectations
  • Remote/virtual work with prolonged periods of computer use and regular electronic communication.
  • Reliable internet access, appropriate computer equipment, and the ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Completion of at least eight hours of continuing education annually in the faculty member’s area of expertise or professional development, as assigned by the College.
  • Regular and reliable participation in assigned course activities, student communications, and required meetings.
