Vermont State University Online seeks an adjunct instructor to teach a 3-credit Criminal Justice course during the Spring 2027 semester between 3/15/2027-5/2/2027. The course will be taught 100% online using Canvas. RESPONSIBILITIESVTSU Online uses Canvas and provides a generic course template for all courses. The instructor is responsible for adding outcomes, academic materials, discussion and assignment that support the course description. Additionally, VTSU Online instructors are obligated to adhere to the VTSU Online Standards that address instructor presence, student engagement, instructor expectations, and assessment of student work.

Course descriptionThis class in applied ethics is designed to introduce upper-level CRJ students to ethical theories and help them apply these theories to real world dilemmas they may confront as criminal justice practitioners. Among the topics explored in this class are: the meaning of morality and ethics, the problem of defining right wrong/good-bad behavior, the connections between law, morality and justice, and the consideration of what consequences should befall those caught in unethical behavior.
Ethical checklists and decision‑making strategies are also examined and evaluated.
For consideration, candidates must possess at least a master's degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience. A minimum of five years of experience teaching fully online, asynchronous courses is required, along with demonstrated familiarity with adult learning theory. Experience with Canvas is preferred. Faculty are responsible for designing their own course with the full support of an instructional designer and the structured VTSU Online Canvas Template.
Instructors are expected to add weekly content including outcomes, readings, videos, discussions, and assessments in alignment with the course description, and follow and VTSU Online Standards of course design, readiness, instructor presence, engagement, assessment, and accessibility. The full course must be ready and published at least one week prior to the start of the semester. Candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, a letter of reference, academic transcript, and statement of commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Compensation is dependent upon online teaching experience (within and outside of the Vermont State Colleges System) and bargaining unit status; the starting range is between $ per credit.
