Pay Range

Pay Range $1,483.20 - $1,751 per credit hour

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

The Department of Drama within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach DRA 321:
Advanced Voice Verse:
Accents and Dialects, a three-credit hour course, during the Spring semester 2027.

The Department of Drama seeks an instructor to design and teach a course in Dialects, focusing on accent acquisition and the practical application of dialect work within acting. The successful candidate will bring both technical expertise in phonetics/accent training and a strong grounding in dramatic literature, curating course materials that reflect a diverse group of artists and traditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five plus years’ experience teaching accents and dialects to drama students.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise in accent/dialect acquisition and instruction (e.g., training in IPA , Knight-Thompson Speech work, or comparable methodology)
  • Professional or academic experience teaching dialects for actors
  • Strong knowledge of dramatic literature across diverse cultural and linguistic traditions
  • MFA or equivalent professional experience in acting, voice, or a related discipline preferred
  • Excellent communication and mentorship skills in a studio/classroom setting
Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver course curriculum covering accent acquisition techniques and dialect work as applied to acting
  • Select and incorporate dramatic materials representing a diverse range of artists and voices
  • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to student actors on dialect technique
  • Assess student progress in both technical accuracy and dramatic application of dialects
  • Collaborate with Drama faculty to ensure alignment with broader acting curriculum and program goals.
