Residential Energy Advisor, East Region. First Service Energy is the energy management and advisory subsidiary of First Service Residential. As the trusted energy advisor, First Service Energy aims to improve energy efficiency, lower energy costs, and reduce carbon emissions for all First Service Residential managed properties. Through energy data analysis and on-site assessments, First Service Energy identifies and evaluates opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.

First Service Energy manages one of the largest energy procurement programs for multifamily buildings, providing significant annual energy savings.

Position Title:

Director, Residential Energy Advisor, East Region. This role will build upon the energy program established in other jurisdictions and will work directly and indirectly with property managers, board members, and building staff in Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and North Carolina to advise on reducing energy consumption, utility costs, and greenhouse gas emissions.

• Serve as a regional subject matter expert for energy and climate-related questions.
• Analyze building utility price structures and consumption data (electricity, natural gas, water) for trends and anomalies.
• Perform building walk-throughs as needed; recommend energy and water efficiency upgrades and low-cost/no-cost operational improvements.
• Prepare building energy reports with estimated savings, implementation strategies, and return-on-investment.
• Attend board meetings as required (often at night and in-person) to explain and pitch energy offerings.
• Create target lists of buildings based on energy spend or usage and propose services to generate savings.
• Develop high ROI/prescriptive measure programs for the region to drive energy reduction.
• Represent and present on behalf of First Service Energy at industry-related events.
• Maintain relationships with vendors, municipalities, and local NGOs to support energy project implementation.

• Hold one or more energy-related certifications: CEM, EBCP, CBCP, LEED O&M.
• Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Sustainability, or another related field.
• 10+ years’ experience in building science, sustainability, energy auditing/consulting.
• Familiar with basic and advanced building mechanical systems used in multifamily buildings (boilers, chillers, cooling towers, PTACs, thermal and DHW distribution systems, BAS, Heat Pumps, Distributed Generation).
• Able to travel to buildings in the region for fieldwork and meetings.
• Able to work in person out of the Fairfax, Virginia office 3 days per week; the remaining 2 days may be remote based on performance.
• Available to attend evening board meetings and special events after 5:00 pm.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to stand for 2+ hours and to climb ladders and navigate interior and exterior building spaces.

• Passionate about the environment and reducing energy/carbon from buildings.
• Detail-oriented and technically proficient with an entrepreneurial spirit.
• Experienced in energy management and carbon reduction strategies in multifamily/condominium/condos/high-rise buildings.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external teams.
• Solutions-oriented with the ability to present ideas effectively.
• Experience with utility and incentive programs and knowledge of local energy regulations and by-laws/ordinances in your region, including:

• Knowledge of electric vehicles and charging technology.
• Comfortable presenting technical energy information in-person and virtually to varied audiences, including client board members, internal associates, and public stakeholders.
• Able to work independently and in a team to achieve goals and targets.
• Open-minded with a culture of continuous learning and sharing of ideas.

• Energy and Project Management Software experience (e.g. Energy Cap).
• Experience in selling energy management services.
