Forensic Mechanical Engineer, P.E.
Haag, a Salas O'Brien company and a leader in forensic engineering and consulting since 1924, is seeking an experienced Forensic Mechanical Engineer located in Houston, TX. Working remotely from your home office and occasionally from the Sugar Land, TX office, you will investigate, evaluate, and determine the root cause and extent of failures and damage to HVAC, MEP, building management systems (BMS), building automation systems (BAS), fire protection and fire alarm systems, and other mechanical failures.
Responsibilities- Investigate and evaluate root cause and extent of mechanical failures.
- Analyze HVAC, MEP, BMS, BAS, fire protection and fire alarm systems.
- Work independently and collaborate with cross-functional experts.
- Prepare technical reports and evidence for expert witness testimony.
- Travel locally, regionally, and nationally as required.
- Adhere to physical requirements such as working in confined spaces, roofs, industrial settings; operate necessary equipment.
- Demonstrate strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
- Licensed P.E. in TX (or eligible by reciprocity); additional active licensures desirable.
- 5-10 years of experience designing/working with mechanical equipment and systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings; at least 5 years of forensic engineering experience strongly preferred.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Strong technical writing, verbal skills, customer service orientation.
- Technical proficiency with computers, phones, cameras, and industry software.
- Expert witness experience expected.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university required.
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering highly desirable.
- CFI (IAAI) and/or CFEI (NAFI) certification(s) strongly preferred.
The total compensation could be $235,000 per year or more, with a base salary up to $180,000 and variable compensation ranging from $0 to $55,000 per year.
