POWER is seeking a motivated Distribution Designer to support the planning and design of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. This role is responsible for preparing accurate, constructible design packages that meet utility, regulatory, and client-specific standards while supporting safe and efficient construction. The ideal candidate has hands-on utility design experience, strong proficiency with CAD and GIS tools, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to deliver high-quality distribution solutions.
- Prepare detailed design packages for overhead and underground distribution lines, including staking sheets and construction drawings.
- Utilize CAD and GIS systems (e.g., AutoCAD, ArcGIS, GSI Distribution Design Studio) to develop accurate layouts and profiles.
- Size transformers for residential, commercial, and industrial loads; perform voltage drop and load balancing calculations.
- Conduct field staking and GPS data collection for new installations and system improvement projects.
- Verify elevations and perform test pitting as needed to determine existing facility depths.
- Ensure designs comply with NESC, RUS, and client-specific standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to align design scope with project schedules.
- Assist with permitting, rights-of-way, and easement documentation as required.
- Prepare cost estimates, bills of materials, and work order construction prints.
- Maintain accurate project records and upload documentation to utility systems such as EFD and INFOR.
- High school diploma or equivalent with electric utility distribution design coursework;
Associate degree in Engineering Technology preferred. - 1-3 years of experience in electric utility distribution design or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software with familiarity using GIS systems.
- Working knowledge of NESC and utility distribution design standards.
- Valid driver's license with ability to travel for field work.
