Team Gilbert has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the Planner II or Planner Senior position. Both the Planner II and Planner Senior positions report to the Principal Planner.
Primary job dutiesThe primary job duties are divided as follows:
- Planner II:
Function as the case planner/project manager to facilitate and coordinate the planning review process with internal staff, applicants, legal counsel, and external agencies to finalize negotiations and maintain standards prior to official review hearings. - Planner II:
Evaluate land development requests for general plan amendments, rezoning, use permits, variances, design review, appeals, annexations, and preliminary plats. - Planner II:
Review and maintain data and records in the management system. - Planner II:
Research and analyze Land Development Code (LDC) provisions, prepare staff recommendations, and draft ordinances. - Planner II:
Prepare public hearing notices. - Planner II:
Write staff reports including analysis, recommendations, conditions of approvals, ordinances, and resolutions. - Planner II:
Present planning projects to various boards, commissions, leadership, and the Town Council. - Planner II:

- Senior Planner:
Assists the Planning Manager in developing short- and long-term department and Town goals. - Senior Planner:
Evaluate complex land development requests for general plan amendments, rezoning, use permits, variances, design review, appeals, annexations, and preliminary plats. - Senior Planner:
Review and maintain data and records in information management systems. - Senior Planner:
Act as a project manager to coordinate the planning review process with internal staff, applicants, legal counsel, and external agencies to finalize negotiations and maintain development standards prior to official review hearings. - Senior Planner:
Research and analyze LDC provisions and municipal code regulations, and prepare staff recommendations, draft ordinances, and resolutions as applicable. - Senior Planner:
Prepare public hearing notices.

The salary shown in the posting is the minimum for Planner II and the maximum for Planner Sr.
The Planner II and Planner Sr. are At-Will positions and FLSA Exempt – ineligible for overtime compensation.
Work arrangementThese positions are currently eligible to work a hybrid remote work schedule consisting of 4/10-hour days, Monday through Thursday. The department's needs determine which days are in-office and which days are remote. Remote work privileges are approved at the sole discretion of the department director; the department reserves the right to modify or discontinue remote work arrangements at any point.
QualificationsPlanner II Candidates must possess the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Land Use Planning, Geography, Public Administration, Architecture, Environmental Design, or a closely related field.
- At least 2 years of Municipal Planning experience in the Public or Private Sector.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
Pay Range for a Planner II is $72,775.00 to $
Planner Senior Candidates must possess the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, urban design, land use planning, geography, public administration, architecture, environmental design, or related field.
- Master's Degree in the same preferred, but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in municipal planning, public or private sector.
- Valid Arizona Driver's License.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) preferred.
