Certification PayThis position is eligible for a five percent (5%) additional professional certification pay with a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) License. Eligible candidates are required to provide evidence of the professional certification.
ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Traffic Signals Manager, this position supports the daily operations of Anchorage’s traffic signal system. This technical engineering role is responsible for developing and refining traffic signal timing strategies to improve safety and efficiency; preparing and implementing data-driven timing plan revisions; responding to public inquiries regarding traffic signals; and collaborating with other agencies to address and resolve traffic signal concerns.
Additional duties include preparing engineering designs, sketches, and work orders for traffic signal modifications. Perform other duties assigned.
- Engine in Training Certificate or professional engineering registration AND five (5) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
- Bachelor’s degree in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Land Use, or a related discipline, AND four (4) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
- Master’s degree in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Land Use, or a related discipline, AND two (2) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
- Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
