Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
This position is eligible for a five percent (5%) additional professional certification pay with a valid State of Alaska Professional Engineering (P.E.) License. Eligible candidates are required to provide evidence of the professional certification.
Under the supervision of the Traffic Signals Manager, this position supports the daily operations of Anchorage's traffic signal system. This technical engineering role is responsible for developing and refining traffic signal timing strategies to improve safety and efficiency; preparing and implementing data-driven timing plan revisions; responding to public inquiries regarding traffic signals; and collaborating with other agencies to address and resolve traffic signal concerns.
Additional duties include preparing engineering designs, sketches, and work orders for traffic signal modifications. Perform other duties assigned.
Engineer In Training Certificate or professional engineering registration and five (5) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Land Use, or a related discipline, and four (4) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Master's degree in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Land Use, or a related discipline, and two (2) years of experience in traffic engineering or a related engineering field, one (1) year of which must at the level of an Assistant Traffic Engineer I with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.

* Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
* Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.
Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.
