Overview

JOB PURPOSE
The individual in this position is responsible for delivering comprehensive training and ensuring the implementation of high-quality procedures related to Electric Substation Operations and Maintenance field equipment. This includes addressing regulatory and safety requirements through a blended learning methodology, as well as contributing to the design and development of effective learning solutions. While the primary emphasis will be on providing exceptional learning experiences within the Substation and Network discipline, support for additional areas such as Metering, Overhead, Underground, or Relay Test is also required.

The role serves as a technical subject matter expert.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Deliver technical training programs to clients using a blended learning approach, incorporating hands-on activities that mimic real-world tasks. This ensures RIE provides training aligned with external requirements, operational priorities, and industry best practices.
  • Design, develop, and update procedures—such as checklists, job aids, and work methods—to effectively support work on RIE equipment and processes.
  • Coordinate the review of new or revised documents, work procedures, and training with Safety, Engineering Standards, Training, and other groups so that all new equipment coming onto system can be safely maintained and operated as per design.
  • Keep up to date on training developments to ensure innovation and latest learning requirements and ideas are incorporated into RIE technical training programs.
  • Support field operations to construct equipment mock-ups and simulations for development of procedures and associated training content.
  • Facilitate communication and adoption of work procedures through committee participation, presentations, process improvement meetings, and roadshows.
  • Support new RIE technology initiatives.
  • Seek out, identify, and incorporate new technologies into procedures and associated training materials.
  • Oversee learning records administration including monitoring course completions, attendance, assessments, and qualifications; administer testing and conduct physical and technical assessments.
  • Fulfill assigned emergency and storm roles, which may require after-hours work during company response efforts. This is activated during storms and other emergencies when the company needs to restore power or respond to other issues affecting customer service.
  • Optional participation in supervisory On-Call rotation for emergency off-hour coverage.
  • Comply with all safety-sensitive driving requirements as applicable.

In the case of remote work, physical presence in the office/on-site may be required to engage in face-to-face interaction and coordination of work among direct reports and co-workers.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate level:
    Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience on a year for year basis.
  • Specialist level:
    Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline plus 2 years of experience in Electric Utility field work (Journeyman equivalent) or equivalent combination of education and experience…
