Welcome to Donan Engineering, a leader in the property insurance intelligence industry. We are currently seeking a full-time professional Field Forensic Engineer with a background in Electrical Engineering to join our team in Albany, NY. The CTL Field Forensic Engineer I (FE-I) focuses on the completion of forensic engineering projects assigned to them, ensuring conformance to firm standards, client commitments, and budget.
This position will manage several concurrent projects and report to the CTL Engineering Manager.

- Provides expert forensic analysis to our clients on an array of engineering projects.
- Serve as an Engineer of Record for Associate Engineers.
- Provides honest and unbiased analysis and consultation on various failures.
- May be required to provide appraisals on structures and equipment as needed.
- Travel within the standard regional boundaries; travel to other regions may be required.
- Meet or exceed established performance metrics for the position.
- Writes and submits detailed and accurate reports on completed projects in a timely manner according to company guidelines.
- Communicate with Donan’s customers to provide timelines and project updates consistently.
- Provide expert testimony and/or depositions as needed.
- Willing to work a flexible schedule and additional hours during peak demand or backlog.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
- Proactively pursue additional training, mentoring opportunities, and certifications.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
- Active registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of application; multiple active state P.E. licensures are highly preferred.
- Willingness to obtain additional state licensures as needed; company typically pays required fees.
- Must have or be eligible to obtain the NCEES record within a reasonable timeframe.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field (civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical).
- Previous forensic experience is highly preferred but not required.
- Previous expert testimony or deposition experience is highly preferred but not required.
- Adaptable with willingness to learn new skills and techniques.
- Extremely well organized with the ability to deliver fast and accurate turnaround times.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and high-stress periods, especially during peak demand.
- Minimum two hours annually of specialized litigation training.
- Experience with hands-on engineering such as structural/mechanical/electrical investigations is highly preferred.
- Hands-on and willing to climb roofs, crawl in tight spaces, etc.
- Will perform projects unless hazards are identified per Donan’s Safety Protocols and JSA’s.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Team-oriented and service-focused; superior customer service skills.
- Strong computer and technical proficiency; capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work remotely and from a home office; willing to travel and/or work a flexible schedule as needed.
- Ability to meet all standards for pre-employment physical examination; must have employee-provided high-speed internet access at a remote office.
- Frequently stand for prolonged periods.
- Frequently lift/move objects weighing 50-100 lbs.
- Frequently climb roofs, ladders, and stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as needed.
- Frequent reaching with hands and arms; using hands to handle and feel.
- Frequently drive a vehicle for extended periods.
