Role description

We are seeking a Wastewater Design Principal Engineer to join our growing Resilience Water team. The ideal candidate may sit in or near any of the locations posted, with East Windsor, NJ being preferred. You will utilize your expertise to execute water and wastewater treatment design and construction engineering activities, manage design teams, and mentor junior engineers. You will support performance of Paramus, NJ and Philadelphia, PA offices and engagement with the national team.

The Wastewater Design Principal Engineer will lead and/or participate in client development activities, assess potentials, assist with position and capture strategies, and support proposal and presentation efforts for water/wastewater design projects from feasibility studies through conceptual and detailed design and design services during construction. You will work with Area Leaders and Account Leaders to develop project scopes and fee estimates and to set the stage for profitable delivery, while managing risk, identifying project staff, and coordinating related activities.

This role involves leading projects and clients in the planning, design, and construction of water and wastewater treatment plants, solids handling facilities, biogas facilities, distribution and collection systems, and pump/lift stations. Familiarity with federal and NJ state funding requirements is expected. Responsibilities also include creating construction documents, specifications, permitting, and overseeing construction administration. You will manage a range of projects for various clients in the region, including budgets and delivery schedules, and lead project teams to meet deliverables.

The position involves direct engagement with clients to understand needs, provide tailored solutions, and ensure compliance with Arcadis practices, quality standards, and safety requirements. Additionally, you will mentor junior engineers and technical staff, coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, and support projects from inception to completion. Travel may be required for client meetings, project site visits, and other assignments.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor or Master s Degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 10 years of related industry experience in the water/wastewater field.
• PE License in New Jersey and/or in other nearby states (or ability to obtain NJ PE within 6 months).

Preferred Qualifications:

• 15+ years of industry-related experience.
• Experience preparing plans and specifications conform to Construction Specification Institute Master Format.
• Experience working on design projects with construction contractors utilizing alternative project delivery methods.
