We are looking for a Power Systems Applications Engineer to work with one of our major clients on a remote position.
Job SummaryThe Power System Applications (PSA) Engineer is responsible for administering, supporting, and optimizing Energy Management System (EMS) power system applications used in generation and grid operations. This role focuses on configuration, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and deployment of patches and fixes in live operational environments to ensure reliable and secure real-time power system operations.
Key Responsibilities- Administer, configure, and optimize EMS and PSA applications, including system tuning, configuration, and security patching.
- Perform technical corrective actions to restore failed or degraded PSA and EMS services in production environments.
- Conduct code reviews, testing, deployment, and monitoring of break/fix patches and application modifications.
- Install, validate, and support fixes on live customer systems with minimal operational impact.
- Monitor application performance, analyze logs, and troubleshoot complex system and integration issues.
- Support power system applications related to generation and grid operations.
- Collaborate with operations, IT, and engineering teams to maintain high availability and system reliability.
- 5+ years of experience supporting Power System Applications in a generation or control center environment, including:
- Automatic Generation Control (AGC)
- Load Frequency Control
- Load Forecasting
- Economic Dispatch
- Power Flow
- Operator Training Simulator (OTS)
- Hands-on experience with GE Power On Reliance (XA21) and/or AEMS/GDC Platform Software
, or equivalent PSA/EMS platforms from Siemens, OSI, ABB, Schneider
, or similar vendors. - Strong experience supporting real-time, mission-critical systems
. - Proficiency in both Linux and Windows operating environments.
- Experience with industry-standard communication protocols, including:
- IEC 60870-5-101 / 104
- DNP3
- Modbus
- ICCP
- OPC
- Working knowledge of relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server
. - Experience with programming and scripting languages for system integration and automation, including C, C++, Perl
, or similar. - Proficiency in SQL
, shell scripting
, and interpreting application logs and debug files. - Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.
