The Impact You'll Make in this Role
We are seeking an Embedded Hardware Design Engineer to architect, design, and validate embedded electronics and firmware for regulated medical devices. In this role, you will drive end-to-end development from feasibility and architecture through design controls, verification/validation, and transfer to manufacturing, ensuring compliance with applicable medical device standards and internal quality systems.
As an Embedded Hardware Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Designing and developing electronic circuits and hardware as part of embedded electro-mechanical systems that meet customer needs and engineering requirements.
- Developing, optimizing, and testing firmware to control embedded systems and microcontrollers.
- Selecting, designing, and implementing interfaces for sensors, pumps, actuators, communications modules, and user interfaces.
- Creating and editing schematics and PCBs using Allegro and/or Altium toolsets.
- Integrating and debugging embedded software during product development and system bring-up.
- Partnering with cross-functional teams (systems, software, mechanical, quality, regulatory, manufacturing) to deliver projects from prototype through commercialization.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, Solventum requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
In addition to the above requirements, the following are also required:
- 5+ years in medical devices or another regulated industry
. - Strong working knowledge of serial interfaces/protocols (RS-232, I2C, SPI).
- Hands-on bring-up/integration/debug of embedded HW/SW; comfortable with soldering/prototyping and lab troubleshooting.
- Proficient with electronic test equipment (oscilloscope, DMM, power supply) and producing solid technical documentation (schematics, PCB/BOM, etc.).
- Experience with EMC/EMI
, ARM Cortex (register-level), and contributing to C/C++ development.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Five (5) years of electrical circuit board design experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.
- Experience working in project team settings with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience quoting new materials and components and partnering with suppliers on component selection and cost/lead-time tradeoffs.
Work location: Hybrid Eligible (Job Duties allow for some remote work but require travel to San Antonio, Tx at least1 days per week)
