We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer III - IV to join our growing team in Richmond, VA
. The candidate should have significant mechanical design experience and a desire to help grow the team, manage, and develop junior mechanical engineers.

Job Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer III - IV you will represent the Firm in interactions with clients, contractors, architects, and other project team members. You will design large projects, prepare reports and specifications, and provide a high level of technical leadership.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assist senior engineer and/or senior designer with project scheduling requirements, manpower requirements, and budgets.
  • Assist with processing RFI’s, Change Orders, Bulletins, and Addenda.
  • Begin to establish system applications, design, and operational parameters / sequences under direction of the senior engineer and/or senior designer.
  • Create basic designs, develop specifications, system narratives, and system layouts for various projects.
  • Participate in / ensure / oversee QA/QC for your work and the work of others.
  • Perform construction administration and field investigations, including field inspections and detailed inspection reports.
  • Represent Syska Hennessy Group in interactions with internal design teams and external clients and consultants (owners, builders, developers, program managers, architects, vendors, etc.).
  • Participate in trade organizations and prepare presentations.
  • Manage CAD/BIM and other technical staff assigned to projects or tasks as directed.
  • Assist with employee reviews as requested.
  • Estimate construction costs and evaluate feasibility using ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude).
  • Write engineering proposals under the direction of a senior engineer or senior designer.
Job Requirements

Successful candidates should have a current EIT and/or PE registration as a Mechanical Engineer with a solid work history. The capability to fully design mechanical systems for various building types (commercial, mixed-use, mission-critical, life science, and R&D facilities) is a major plus for this role.

Additional requirements for the Senior Mechanical Engineer include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 3.5+ to 7+ years of experience in a consulting firm
  • LEED AP accreditation, highly preferred
  • Strong ability to coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, structural, electrical, and telecom teams, considering constructability and cost
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and REVIT
  • EIT/FE required; PE preferred
