Overview

Mechanical Design Engineer. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be a key member of the Engineering team, responsible for design verifications and drawing reviews. The role requires accountability for field deviations and non-conformance reports and aims to support Gen. IV advanced reactor design concepts, such as the Natrium Reactor. This position involves tackling complex technical issues in a dynamic project environment, contributing to the design of the primary sodium mechanical pump in the Natrium Demo reactor.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks.
  • Lead and conduct mechanical design, analyses, evaluations, and verifications for the Natrium Primary Sodium Mechanical Pump.
  • Execute analysis, design, test, or integration required to define the Natrium Primary Sodium Mechanical Pump to meet business standards and program/product requirements.
  • Perform fundamental engineering hand calculations and modeling.
  • Develop drawings and specifications to ensure products meet all engineering and quality requirements.
  • Maintain focus on assessing causality and risk.
  • Prepare and present technical data to internal customers.
  • Lead and facilitate discussion and information exchange to promote open dialogue, working effectively in a matrixed team environment.
  • Ensure product designs meet all intended application and design requirements by collaborating with experts in other functional teams.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of experience with an OEM, with preferred experience in nuclear.
  • Design and specification and drawing reviews.
  • Experience with NQA programs.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design.
  • Experience in field deviation and non-conformance paperwork.
  • Proficiency with ANSYS FEA analysis.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related area from an accredited college or university.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of major reactor systems and their operation.
  • Experience with reactivity control systems for existing nuclear power plants.
  • Proven technical skills within a project management environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Commercial Nuclear Power Plant Systems.
  • Professional Engineering License or Advanced Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with at least 2 years as a lead or lead contributor on major projects.
  • Knowledge of nuclear plant systems, analyses techniques, commercial plant outages, and nuclear industry practices.
  • Experience with design, evaluation, and operation of nuclear power plant components.
Work Environment

This is a fully remote position involving heavy R&D, design review, and verification work. It is an opportunity to support next-generation reactor technology, tackling complex design challenges in a true engineering feat.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Wilmington, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $75.00/hr.
