What Your Job Will Be Like:This Senior Scientist/Senior Engineer Level job posting is to fill the Program Chief Engineer role (job title: R&D S&E Systems Engineer) for the Nuclear Armed Sea Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM‑N) Reuse Program.
The Program Chief Engineer (PCE) partners with the system senior manager and supports the Center 8200 Director in leading the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) System Integrator and Design Agency effort for the program. The PCE's specific leadership roles include system integration, reuse design optimization and themes, qualification basis and efficiency, anomaly resolution, and technical trades in coordination with sites across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE), supported by a team of multi‑faceted, discipline specific technical leadership on the program.
The role enables technically informed and risk‑based program decisions, establishment of a technical robust design that maximizes reuse, establishment of an appropriate and defensible qualification program, knowledge base assessment and development, and facilitation of internal and external peer review approaches for technical questions and challenges. The SLCM‑N PCE will ensure a sound technical reuse strategy that meets requirements, while meeting the short schedule and balancing risk.
The SLCM‑N PCE will also partner with other PCEs and Domain Chief Engineers (DCE) to assure consistency and excellence in technical deliverables while assuring timeliness and responsiveness of technical decisions.
- Own technical decision authority for the System, enabled by the system engineering team within cost and schedule constraints.
- Serve as the Sandia National Laboratories point of contact for technical integration across the NSE.
- Serve as technical point of contact for assigned weapon program's external stakeholders.
- Identify, develop, and mentor next generation weaponeers/staff with a focus on future Chief Engineers.
- Engagement in review and support of other nuclear deterrence (ND) system integration activities as needed and in coordination with 8200 Director and Chief Engineer Network.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA or Albuquerque, NM.
Ability and willingness to travel, up to 25%, required.
Salary Range:$219,500 - $373,400
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:- Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline plus 15 or more years of directly related experience; or Master's degree in relevant discipline plus 11 years directly related experience; or PhD in relevant discipline plus 7 years directly related experience. Equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
