The Secure Embedded Systems department (5327) is seeking a motivated firmware or embedded hardware engineer to support large multi‑disciplinary programs critical to national security. The successful candidate will support the design, development, test, and deployment of novel FPGA and embedded solutions. The successful candidate will have a background and understanding of FPGAs, firmware, state‑of‑the‑art computing (SoCs), and a readiness to apply this understanding to a variety of embedded systems.
You will work alongside world‑class authorities and emerging leaders and use your skills in the following ways:
- Embedded software
- FPGA Firmware
- Verification & validation
- Real‑time data processing
- Object‑oriented software frameworks and architecture development
- Networked and distributed architectures
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range$99,400 - $193,600
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance and SCI.
The ideal Electrical Engineering candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Ability to work independently and collaborate well in a multidisciplinary team of designers and test engineers.
- Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling.
Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:
- Your background must include one or more of the following:
- Experience developing and deploying novel firmware on state‑of‑the‑art hardware
- Experience targeting embedded processors in FPGAs
- Experience with embedded OS (Ubuntu, Green Hills, etc.)
- Experience with printed circuit board design, test, and debug
- Experience with FPGA design tools (Xilinx Vivado, Synplify Pro, etc)
- Experience with firmware DSP implementation
- Experience in taking an FPGA design to hardware and/or ASIC and utilizing the full array of debugging tools (embedded and bench logic analyzer, O‑scope, etc)
- Demonstrated experience with C++ and Python
