What Your Job Will Be Like:Are you looking to do innovative, creative, and impactful engineering? The Advanced and Exploratory Systems Engineering Demonstrators team is at the forefront of nuclear deterrence, driving technology acceleration and exploring the art of the possible.
We are seeking a dedicated R&D Electrical Engineer to support the California Advanced & Exploratory Demonstrator Systems Engineering Team. This role is ideal for an engineer that is passionate about advancing engineering systems development for future Nuclear Deterrence programs and our stakeholders.
On any given day, you may be called on to:- Lead the design and integration of electrical systems for advanced and future warhead concepts, ensuring alignment with weapon system requirements and operational needs.
- Plan, conduct, and execute Sandia’s science and engineering programs within the spectrum of fundamental research, development, and demonstration, with a focus on R&D initiatives.
- Apply scientific methods and engineering principles to demonstrate innovative designs, concepts, products, processes, or systems that enhance nuclear deterrence capabilities.
- Define and guide the development of concept weapon system architectures and layouts, collaborating closely with mechanical and systems engineers to ensure integration of hardware.
- Conduct system‑level design architecture analysis that combines multiple component parts or subsystems into a complete functional system, identifying and resolving integration challenges.
- Identify future technology development needs and define requirements for experimental test units (Demonstrators), ensuring they are equipped to validate new concepts and technologies.
- Develop advanced engineering demonstrators and/or test units, conduct testing, and analyze results to explore the art of the possible.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite in Livermore, CA.
Salary Range:$135,700 – $270,900
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
- Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent to start.
The ideal R&D Electrical Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
- Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
- Demonstrated experience with analog and digital circuit design and analysis.
