TERM LIMITED POSITION: This position is term limited with an anticipated end date of approximately one year from the date of hire. Travel Requirement: Occasional travel within the state to areas outside your assigned geographic location may be required. These instances will be planned in advance and expenses reimbursed per existing policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Provide network engineering services to the statewide enterprise network and all State agencies.
- Act as a subject matter expert in design, implementation, and support of highly complex networks including LAN/WAN, Wireless, data center, and cloud technologies.
- Technical lead for planning, testing, administering, and implementing network solutions while establishing best‑practice standards.
- Perform network architecture design and implementation impacting all supported agencies across Colorado.
- Establish network technology standards within the State network infrastructure.
- Interface with network operations, security operations, and telecommunications teams to provide network services to customers.
- Support the strategic interface to other entities including state, federal, and local agencies; private sector groups; and the public.
- Design, configure, administer, and deploy mission‑critical network hardware and applications to provide Network as a Service (NaaS) for State agencies.
- Maximize network performance by monitoring, troubleshooting, addressing security concerns, resolving outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating on network optimization.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise on network design, solutions, and implementation for new projects.
- Analyze performance and comparative costs of products to determine the most cost‑effective solution.
- Provide recommendations and solutions to leadership.
- Partner with customers and vendors to clarify rationales for technical decisions and concepts.
- Five years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position, including:
- Configuring Cisco‑based routing and switching solutions for local campus and wide‑area networks
- Leading and planning network projects
- Experience with Cisco DNAC
- Experience with network monitoring applications
- Experience developing network topologies
- Three (3) years professional engineering experience in network design, architecture, and implementation.
- Cisco Professional and/or Expert certifications such as CCNP or CCIE.
- Professional networking experience with wireless technologies.
- Professional networking experience with Cisco ISE.
- Professional networking experience with Cisco DNAC.
- Professional networking experience with data center technologies.
- Professional networking experience with SDWAN.
- Professional networking experience with scripting and automation.
- Understanding of Agile/Scrum Methodologies or related certifications.
- Compliance with all OIT screening procedures at state entity locations where work may be performed.
