AboutThe Role
The Manager‑AC Power and Environmental is a critical leadership role responsible for the reliability, safety, and compliance of commercial AC power, backup power systems, and environmental controls supporting our network facilities and field sites. This role includes end‑to‑end power activation and inspection readiness, lifecycle maintenance of UPS/generator/HVAC systems, adherence to electrical and safety codes, and coordinated incident response to minimize customer impact.
The manager leads a team of power/environment professionals and vendors, partners closely with Construction, Engineering, PMO, Operations, and the NOC, and ensures that power turn‑ups align with build schedules to protect revenue and customer experience.
This position can be filled remotely anywhere within the country.
- Reliability, maintenance, and operations
- Oversee the health and lifecycle of UPS systems, battery plants, generators, transfer switches, grounding/bonding, distribution panels, HVAC/CRAC units, and environmental monitoring/alarming
- Establish preventive maintenance programs and ensure PM compliance; drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for incidents
- Maintain standards for configuration, labeling, safe work practices, and change control (MOPs)
- Compliance and safety
- Ensure conformance to applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70/70E), local ordinances, and company safety policies
- Maintain audit‑ready documentation: one‑lines, load calculations, inspection records, test reports, maintenance logs, and commissioning packages
- Construction and project delivery support
- Sequence power milestones with construction critical paths; coordinate with OSP/ISP construction, Engineering, and PMO to meet Ready‑for‑Service targets
- Review designs and submittals for conformance to standards and site conditions; approve as‑built documentation
- Incident management and resilience
- Lead escalations for utility outages, HVAC failures, and power quality events; coordinate vendor dispatch, on‑site response, and communications to stakeholders
- Optimize monitoring/telemetry thresholds and alerting; partner with NOC on runbooks and incident reduction
- Vendor, budget, and asset management
- Manage power/environmental service providers and OEMs; negotiate scope, SLAs, and performance metrics
- Plan and manage Opex/Capex for replacements, capacity adds, and reliability upgrades; prioritize spend based on risk and business impact
- Maintain accurate asset inventories and refresh roadmaps
- People leadership and collaboration
- Lead and develop a team of engineers/technicians; set goals, coach performance, and build succession depth
- Communicate status, risks, and mitigation plans to executive stakeholders; facilitate cross‑functional forums and problem‑solving
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience
- 7+ years of experience in AC power and environmental systems for telecom, data center, utility, or mission‑critical environments
- 3+ years of direct people leadership or project/program leadership in a mission‑critical operations context
- Hands‑on expertise with commercial power distribution, grounding, UPS/battery systems, generators/ATS, and HVAC for telecom/IT spaces
- Proven experience coordinating with utilities and AHJs for permits, inspections, and turn‑ups
- Strong knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E and practical application of electrical safety programs
- Demonstrated incident management skills with measurable reductions in MTTR and incident frequency
- Excellent communication, vendor management, and cross‑functional collaboration skills; ability to influence without direct authority
- Ability to work after‑hours/on‑call for escalations and critical cutovers; valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
