Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 540,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called Giga One.
Our missionis to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid.
Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.
At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.
About the RoleWe're looking for an experienced electrical engineer to design commercial and industrial battery storage systems. As an Energy Storage Design Engineer (C&I) , you'll visit customer sites, assess their electrical infrastructure, and create preliminary system designs that are ready for permitting and installation. This role focuses on medium-voltage applications and requires translating complex technical solutions into clear value propositions for business customers.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive site assessments specializing in commercial, industrial and utility customers to gather essential data for project planning.
- Develop preliminary system designs to facilitate early-stage project discussions.
- Act as the primary point of contact with our customers during the design and installation process, maintaining regular communication to keep them informed.
- Translate complex technical systems and industrial-grade processes into clear, accessible concepts and language for non-technical decision makers in business and industrial settings.
- Analyze energy usage and operational performance data to inform design decisions and optimize system performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless transition from design to implementation.
- Validate that systems are installed according to plan and meet customer expectations, which may involve travel to customer locations.
- This is a hybrid position with approximately 75% of work performed from your home office and 25% travel for site visits and project evaluations. Travel is primarily day trips within Utah, with occasional overnight stays in-state or out-of-state as projects require.
- Typically requires a degree in a related technical field like Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy, but we value diverse learning paths and welcome candidates who demonstrate relevant experience – such as Journeyman Lineman or Electrician.
- 3-5+ years of experience conducting system design and site evaluations for commercial, industrial, and renewable energy projects, with a focus on optimizing performance, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with medium voltage electrical systems and power distribution. (~4-12.5 kV)
- Strong familiarity with applicable codes and standards governing renewable energy systems and storage installations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant local and national regulations.
- Solid understanding of renewable energy technologies, including battery storage solutions, grid-tied systems, and emerging trends shaping the commercial and industrial energy landscape.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail, ensuring quality and consistency throughout all project phases.
- Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle.
- High voltage experience, utility interconnection projects or…
