We are looking for a Power Systems Consultant or a Senior Power Systems Consultant to join Grid Software’s Power Technologies International (PTI) team. This role is critical to the protection, planning, and power quality of distribution, industrial, Distributed Energy Resource (DER), and microgrid power systems and safe, reliable, and efficient operation of those systems. Customers range from power producers, Independent System Operators (ISOs), and Transmission and Distribution (T&D) utilities.

This is a remote position based in the Contiguous U.S.

You’ll make an impact as you:

  • Perform distribution planning through the application of power systems planning principles to simulate and analyze the power system steady state, protection systems, and dynamic behavior.
  • Prepare detailed written reports, describing performed analyses, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Work in small project teams, ensuring deliverables are of high quality and projects are completed within budget and schedule.
  • Develop automation scripts to improve the speed and accuracy of simulations and analysis.
  • Support proposal preparation by developing project plans, budgets, and timelines.
  • Deliver technical consulting/training services, on-site if required.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in Power and Energy Systems.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in the electric power industry; candidates with 5 or more years of this experience may be considered for a Senior Power Systems Consultant role.
  • Experience with load flow, short circuit, protection & relay coordination, arc flash, and/or grounding studies for HV, MV, and/or LV systems.
  • Strong foundation in power systems and protective relaying principles, including applications and hardware—both microprocessor-based and electromechanical relays—from major vendors.
  • Proficient in designing, implementing, and maintaining protection schemes for power system components such as generators, transformers, buses, and transmission/distribution lines.
  • Expertise in power system modeling and analysis software, such as CYME, ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, PSCAD, PSS E, Gridscale X APA, ASPEN, and/or others.
  • Ability to travel 10% domestically.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior experience in Power System Consulting.
  • Experience with power quality and transient stability studies is preferred.
  • Experience in distribution system planning or operations, microgrids, and load/generation forecasting and integration is preferred.
  • A master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering with a specialization in Power and Energy Systems.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
