KLINE is looking for a Project Manager I to join our Virginia office on-site. This is an immediate opportunity for someone ready to take the next step in their career and help design smarter, stronger, and more efficient concrete structures.
About the RoleThe Project Manager will lead the design and delivery of new wood and steel buildings. This role blends hands‑on structural design with project leadership, client engagement, and mentorship within our entrepreneurial, design‑focused structural engineering firm.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage structural engineering projects for new wood and steel buildings from concept through construction.
- Serve as Project Manager, providing hands‑on technical leadership and overall project accountability.
- Develop and manage project scopes, schedules, staffing plans, budgets, and financial tracking.
- Act as the primary client contact maintaining clear, timely, and professional communication.
- Proactively manage client expectations, resolve issues early, and deliver solutions that drive repeat business.
- Coordinate closely with architects, owners, contractors, and consultants to deliver practical, constructible designs.
- Prepare and oversee structural designs, calculations, and construction documents for wood and steel framing systems.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs, and respond efficiently during construction.
- Perform site visits and construction observations to confirm conformance with design intent and codes.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, reinforcing KLINE’s culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Apply firm quality control standards and sound engineering judgment on all projects.
- Identify value engineering and constructability opportunities that benefit clients and project teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required;
Master’s degree desirable. - Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience managing structural engineering projects, with a primary focus on new wood and steel building design.
- Strong working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, NDS, ACI as applicable).
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as RISA 3D, ETABS, STAAD, RAM, Enercalc, or similar.
- Experience with AutoCAD and Revit in a building design environment.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining attention to detail and technical quality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence interacting directly with clients and project partners.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to lead, motivate and develop team members who may be working on‑site or in a remote work environment.
