The customer team comprises Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission‑critical communication systems.
Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services some of our customer’s mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as APX Next Smart and live mobile video transmission supplementing our traditional core voice and narrow band data networks.
Job DescriptionNote:
This is a remote in Florida, this requires travel (25-50%) to support projects in the T4FL territory with focus in South Florida.
The Systems Staff Engineer will be responsible for the public safety design and implementation of solutions for Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies for State and Local government agencies. We are looking for Engineers who are energized by delivering solutions that truly make a difference.

This is a remote position with travel (25-50%) to support projects in T4FL sub territory.
Engineer of Record Project Responsibilities:
The Systems Staff Engineer will work with a field team of Project Management, Systems Engineers, Field Engineers, Construction Managers, and Customer Service Managers, and will be responsible for leading technical aspects of smaller assigned projects through system acceptance. The Engineer will support other Systems Engineers with tasks on medium to large projects.
This involves:
- Design and implementation of the radio network including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul and WAN and CEN networks.
- High level of customer and consultant interaction involving customer design reviews, customer witnessed staging and acceptance testing events, coverage acceptance testing, live system upgrades, and troubleshooting efforts.
- System buildout, configuration and acceptance testing in both lab staging and field environments
- Radio coverage testing, frequency analysis and interference mitigation
- Radio system licensing (FCC/Industry)
- Preparation of system fleet map, encryption and radio programming templates
- Complete system documentation
- Live system cutovers and upgrades
Additional Skills/Knowledge:
- Radio Frequency Engineering principles
- Land / Mobile Radio Engineering principles
- RFDS principles to include antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, receive multi‑couplers, and lightning protection systems.
- P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and two‑way subscriber radio provisioning methods.
- Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture is a plus.
- Servers and related systems to include: VMware ESXi, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems.
- Construction of remote communication sites to include: site selection, grounding, compound development, tower and shelter requirements.
- Fortinet and Juniper firewalls, Nokia 7705 series routers, Juniper SRX/MX (Junos) series routers, HP/Aruba and Juniper switches
- Remote access using SSH, SCP, SFTP, RDP
- Knowledge with point‑to‑point Microwave systems, Microwave RF & Network design
- FCC licensing and frequency search
- Software applications integration, Application Protocol Interfaces (API) concepts, computer operating systems, and the OSI model.
