This position is based in our SICK, Bloomington MN campus. The person will work in office four days a week and may work remotely the other day.
The Customer Project Engineer I role is primarily responsible for post-sale technical project management for SICK solutions sold into industrial automation markets in North and South America.
Key Responsibilities- Provide pre-sale application and proposal support for internal and external customers, ensuring the right solution is developed for the customer.
- Support the Product Management and Sales team through the proposal process to find optimal technical solutions to meet the customers’ needs, including pre-sale cost analysis.
- Manage technical implementation of work packages for customer projects with support from the larger team. Coordinate with Project Management, Project Engineering resources, and SICK Intelligent Supply Network. Coordinate with external vendors and partners as needed to complete outsourced tasks.
- Support project execution by developing complete Bill of Materials (BOM’s) for the required system scope; manage mechanical and electrical schematics along with other project‑specific requirements to help SICK fulfill the project scope and support the installation team through project acceptance.
- Review and deliver project specific technical documentation to support internal SICK standards and project specific contract requirements.
- Utilize the full line of SICK products to offer differentiated systems to fit our customers’ needs across North and South America.
- Provide feedback to the Engineering department & Product Management regarding updates or changes needed in current products offered by SICK.
- Under direction, support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and validation of customized solutions for assigned projects.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
- Experience
: 0-2 years of experience in project management, systems engineering, design engineering, or related experience. - Education
:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field is required. - Position-specific Qualifications
:- Demonstrated ability to engage directly with customers to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
- Proven capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality expectations.
- Experience with PLC and industry communication protocols is preferred.
- Ability to review equipment specifications, technical documentation, and engineering drawings to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Ability to work independently and quickly adapt to evolving project priorities and dynamic work environment.
- Ability to read basic CAD designs, blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross‑functional teams.

The base salary is one part of our Total Rewards package and is determined within a range. The starting base salary range for this position is listed below; the actual starting salary will be based on a variety of factors including experience, skill set, education, performance, licenses/certifications, business needs and other job‑related factors, as permitted by law.
- Starting Base Annual Salary Range
: $66,180 - $100,100 - Bonus Eligibility

This role is eligible for an annual bonus based on a combination of company and individual performance.
