Position: Estimator - Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers

Position Overview

As an Estimator, you will prepare, review and present discipline estimates for specific project proposal activities. In this role, you will provide estimating assistance and guidance to projects, develop conceptual estimates and perform cost analysis. You will be responsible for assisting in the development of discipline/service estimators, developing and updating historical databases, and assisting in the development of department procedures. You will also provide direction to others on project/program level tasks.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering’s Design‑Build team drives clients to turn to Kiewit during all stages of design‑build projects. Our integrated design and construction approach enables a multi‑disciplinary team to improve schedule, control costs, and minimize risk. Our construction‑focused engineers collaborate with estimators and builders to design innovative, constructible solutions with a focus on safety. Clients benefit from Kiewit’s proven processes and tools that minimize project risk.

As an in‑house resource, we support projects throughout the company, sharing experiences, innovative concepts, and best practices.

Location

This position is based out of our Lone Tree, CO office.

Responsibilities
  • Develop complete estimates for large, complex jobs.
  • Collaborate with permanent design and construction engineering disciplines, in‑house and third party.
  • Review plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project; create a plan for the actual construction to serve as the basis for the estimate.
  • Review all bid and contract documents and home office views.
  • Conduct site investigations prior to forming a plan of operations to identify any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present.
  • Utilize engineering techniques and procedures to conduct investigations and adhere to standard company policy and procedures.
  • Perform design work as required by the project that is beyond the estimator’s scope of experience; handle any major technical problems encountered during bid preparation.
  • Stay abreast of trends and developments, such as new equipment, methods, and procedures that are emerging in the industry.
  • Prepare special engineering studies or reports required by certain bid items or conditions.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract and material supplier solicitations.
  • Consult with clients on various challenges discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Broad knowledge and ability to understand project scheduling, cost control, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • 5+ years of construction/engineering experience, specifically with heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with InEight Estimate (Hard Dollar) highly desirable.
  • Experience with CADD and 3D modeling software.
  • Strong mathematical and computer skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, costs and techniques.
  • Knowledge of construction safety and current federal & OSHA requirements.
  • Willingness to travel as required by the job.

Base Compensation

$90,000 - $120,000 (Actual compensation varies based on education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
