Job Title:
Project Manager – Technical Specification Specialist
Location:
Remote (must be within 3 hours’ driving distance of Port Charlotte, Florida)
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Manager – Technical Specification Specialist with a background in generating and reviewing technical specifications for commercial construction and an engineering, construction management, architecture, or related background to join our team. This is a remote position with some required in‑person site visits for verification during the specification development. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction practices, engineering principles, and experience generating specification packages for parks and recreation facilities, buildings, waterfront structures, utilities, infrastructure, and other site‑related features.
In this role, you will be responsible for creating accurate and clear technical specifications for a variety of construction projects, working closely with portfolio managers and stakeholders to ensure specifications align with project requirements, codes, and industry standards. Lead the effort to streamline the Technical Specification development process. Opportunities for growth.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Specification Creation: Develop detailed and comprehensive construction specification packages for parks and recreation facilities, buildings, utilities, and infrastructure.
- Site Verification: Conduct in‑person site visits to gather data, verify project needs, and ensure that specifications align with actual site conditions.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: Partner with engineers, architects, project managers, team members, and clients to gather technical information, ensure accuracy, and clarify project requirements.
- Quality Assurance / Quality Control: Review and revise technical specifications to ensure they meet industry standards, code requirements, and client expectations. Coordinate post‑construction field verification.
- Standards Compliance: Ensure that all specifications comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including building codes and construction industry best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
- Engineering
Experience:
At least 7 years of experience in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Structural, etc.), Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field. - Commercial Construction
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, with a focus on writing specifications for construction projects. - Specification Writing Expertise: Proven experience in developing construction specification packages, including general, performance, and detailed specifications for various types of structures and site features. Working knowledge of applicable standards, technical documents, and vendor product details.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in technical writing tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc.), and familiarity with construction‑specific tools like Bluebeam is a plus.
- Communication
Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with team members, clients, and external stakeholders. - Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills and an eye for detail in creating thorough and error‑free specifications.
- Degree or Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Structural, etc.), Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field is preferred.
- Relevant Certification: Certifications in construction specifications (e.g., CCM – Certified Construction Manager) would be an advantage.
- Local Knowledge: Familiarity with the Florida Building Code is preferred.
Travel: This is a mostly remote role but will require some in‑person travel for site visits. The ideal candidate should be located within a 3‑hour driving radius of Port Charlotte, Florida.
Work Environment: Flexibility to work remotely with occasional visits to job sites for verification and inspections as needed. The ability to lift 25 pounds and move safely over uneven terrain.
