The Master ECAD Designer is a recognized subject matter expert responsible for executing, reviewing, and guiding the most complex ECAD designs for high-reliability circuit card assemblies (CCAs) used in aerospace and communications systems. This role performs hands-on ECAD design and serves as a trusted authority in design standards, documentation practices, and ECAD tool usage.
The designer plays a critical role in ensuring design quality, preventing costly errors through expert review, and mentoring designers across multiple programs and locations. While not responsible for project ownership or work assignment, the role significantly influences ECAD design quality, methodology, and technical excellence across the organization.
This position operates with a high degree of autonomy, routinely solving novel and highly complex design challenges and contributing to the evolution of ECAD standards, processes, and best practices.
What You Will Do:
- Perform hands-on ECAD design and layout for highly complex, high-reliability circuit card assemblies, including multilayer rigid and flex designs, advanced signal integrity, power integrity, and timing-critical routing
- Serve as final checker and technical authority for ECAD designs, ensuring compliance with internal standards, IPC requirements, manufacturability, reliability, and quality objectives
- Lead ECAD design reviews and provide expert-level guidance on stack-up analysis, impedance control, routing strategies, fabrication constraints, and assembly considerations
- Act as a recognized subject matter expert across ECAD tools, workflows, and documentation practices, supporting multiple programs and design teams
- Mentor and train ECAD designers and engineers across experience levels, including onboarding, tool training, and best-practice adoption
- Develop, maintain, and improve ECAD design standards, guidelines, libraries, and documentation control processes
- Lead or significantly contribute to ECAD quality initiatives, error-prevention strategies, and continuous improvement efforts across the organization
- Support ECAD Leads and project teams by providing advanced technical insight, risk identification, and solution recommendations for complex design challenges
- Interface directly with Manufacturing, Quality, Configuration Management, suppliers, and external fabrication/assembly partners to resolve design and process issues
- Provide leadership in ECAD tool implementation, migration, and optimization, including legacy-to-modern EDA transitions
- Influence enterprise ECAD methodology through lessons learned, training materials, and cross-program technical leadership
- Must be willing and able to up to 10% of the time
- Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- U.S. citizenship U is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
- 6+ years experience with PCB layout using ECAD tools (Siemens Xpedition preferred; Cadence Allegro, Mentor PADS, or similar also acceptable)
- Ability to communicate and present to all levels of the organization
- Experience with Siemens Xpedition 2504 version (or VX versions) specifically for 24 layer-count or higher, complex PCB designs
- Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) reviews
- Familiarity with advanced ECAD tool capabilities such as constraint manager, variant management, and high-speed signal routing
- Exposure to military, aerospace, or highly regulated industries
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior designers, performing design reviews, and leading ECAD quality initiatives
- Knowledge of document control, PLM integration, and library management in a corporate ECAD environment
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams, lead design tasks and reviews, and resolve highly complex design issues.
- Experience leading ECAD teams, developing ECAD department design standards, mentoring designers, and managing complex…
