What Your Job Will Be LikeWe are seeking an Electromechanical Technologist to work with our team in the Applied Science and Technology Maturation department.
In this hands‑on position, you will work with team members on experimental setups that examine physical phenomena of interest to the Neutron Generator (NG) Enterprise. Our team focuses on research and development of new products and processes for NG’s as well as advancing innovative solutions for existing product in collaboration with NG Design Agency and NG Production Agency, our sister departments.
Your role will range from creative conception and design to assembly and operation of complex systems. The position includes both independent and teamwork, engaging with staff members and other technologists on our team. Due to the nature of the work, a commitment to safety and security is required; the experimental systems may have pressure, thermal, radiological, and electrical hazards. Your responsibilities will also include tasks related to maintaining a dynamic laboratory environment and may include serving as a pressure or electrical safety advisor, acting as vault type room owner, maintaining a purchase card, and routine inspection of safety equipment.
This includes coordinating with facilities and purchasing agencies to maintain conformance with lab policies and guidelines.
On any given day you may be called upon to:
- Develop and assemble experimental setups
- Operate complex and challenging experiments
- Work with chemicals, vacuum systems, and radiological materials
- Develop, deploy, and document data acquisition systems
- Assess and improve the safety of the equipment and experimental setups
- Engage in problem‑solving and brainstorming activities
- Document observations, processes, and procedures
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range$74,700 - $144,400
* Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- Associates degree in mechanical or electrical technologies or engineering; or 5 years of relevant experiences, or equivalent
- Experience with conceptualizing, designing electrical and mechanical systems, and safe laboratory practices and secure handling of equipment and data
- Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
- Ability to work independently under direction of a staff member in a laboratory environment as evidence by work experience, internships, or University lab courses.
- Experience using CAD tools (Solid Works, CREO, etc.) to design experimental components that could be exposed to vacuum, high‑pressure and/or electrical environments
- Experience designing and operating high vacuum systems including pumps, pressure gauges, and residual gas analyzers
