Role descriptionWe are currently seeking a Principal Water/Wastewater Conveyance Engineer in our San Antonio, TX or Austin, TX offices to help us lead a team and grow technical expertise in water/wastewater conveyance design and construction support services. The Principal Water/Wastewater Conveyance Engineer will be a critical member of our team and will be expected to execute and manage projects, engage in client development, and win more exciting and challenging projects throughout the Texas market.

As a Principal Water/Wastewater Conveyance Engineer, you will manage a diverse portfolio of projects for various clients across the region, coordinating multi‑disciplined engineering teams to deliver outstanding results. Your responsibilities will include overseeing project budgets and delivery schedules, leading project teams to ensure all deliverables are met, and providing technical leadership throughout the planning, design, and construction phases of water and wastewater, distribution and collection systems, lift stations and pumping stations.
You will also be responsible for preparing construction documents, developing specifications, and managing construction oversight and administration.
In addition to project delivery, you will play a key role in client development activities, supporting positioning and capture strategies, and contributing to proposal and presentation efforts for Water/Wastewater Conveyance Design projects. A critical aspect of this role involves collaborating with Area Leaders and client Account Leaders to define project scopes and fee estimates, manage risks, identify project staff, and ensure projects are set up for successful and profitable delivery.
You will coordinate with Arcadis’ industry‑leading technical advisors in water and wastewater hydraulic modeling and facility design, and contribute to strategic planning with clients for water/wastewater treatment plants, stormwater systems, distribution and collection systems, and pump/lift stations. Additionally, you will mentor junior engineers and technical staff, support the work of others, and ensure compliance with all Arcadis practices, quality, and safety standards.
Local travel of up to 10% is required for project site visits, client meetings, and business development activities.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical engineering background and has demonstrated experience successfully delivering water and wastewater conveyance design projects. They have a proven track record in client development, including pursuing proposals and participating in interviews to secure new projects. Additionally, they are skilled in delivering technical presentations and contributing effectively during project pursuit interviews. Highly organized with a keen attention to detail, the candidate is flexible and able to collaborate with various project teams both locally and across remote offices, consistently delivering high‑quality work products to clients.
They also bring experience in negotiating, managing, and successfully delivering projects with fees of $1 million or more.
