Position Overview
The Photonics and Optomechanics Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD is looking for postdoctoral scholars to develop nonlinear photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and related PIC technologies for applications in deployable precision metrology and other related fields. Representative prior work includes optical parametric oscillators for reaching visible wavelengths from an infrared source, efficient second-harmonic generation in silicon nitride PICs, the study of photonic crystal ring resonators for applications in nonlinear photonics, and the realization of octave-spanning frequency combs.
The above technologies have also been used in high-resolution atomic spectroscopy and time and frequency measurements. Experience in the fields of integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, and frequency metrology is highly desirable. Specific skills of interest include design of integrated photonics devices using commercial computational electromagnetic modeling tools, integrated photonics device layout and nanofabrication in a cleanroom facility, and integrated photonics characterization including swept-wavelength spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and frequency noise measurements.
Applicants should have a PhD in physics, electrical engineering, or related fields. US Citizenship is preferred.
