Echo Power is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer (Protection & Controls) to support the design and implementation of complex electrical upgrade projects in power plants and medium‑to‑high‑voltage substations. This role provides a well‑rounded engineering experience spanning the full project lifecycle—from initial data collection and design through installation, commissioning, and functional testing. This is a hybrid position, with design work performed primarily from home and travel required approximately 25% of the time to project sites across the United States.
Key responsibilities include:Protection System Design
- Perform field data collection to support protection and control system design.
- Develop DC schematic drawings, AC elementary drawings, physical layouts, bills of materials, and relay settings.
- Develop and review wiring diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, and front panel layouts.
- Develop and review as‑built drawings.
- Participate in design review meetings.
- Develop control system architecture, including points lists, PLC ladder logic, and HMI screen configurations.
- Develop and review interconnect and wiring diagrams.
- Develop and review as‑built drawings.
- Assist with development of lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements.
- Support project schedule development and coordination.
- Provide field support to electricians during installation activities.
- Perform functional testing, startup checks, and commissioning activities.
- Provide daily field updates and maintain project redlines.
- Strong working knowledge of power generation and transmission equipment, including metering and controls, instrument transformer circuits, relays and relay logic, generator excitation systems, transformers, and protective principles.
- Experience installing and commissioning equipment in power plants and substations.
- Ability to develop and execute commissioning work plans for electrical projects.
- Self‑motivated engineer with a strong work ethic who is equally comfortable working in the field or performing detailed design work.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work day‑to‑day with electricians and project teams.
- Strong computer proficiency across Microsoft platforms, AutoCAD, and MathCAD.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
- 3+ years of recent and relevant experience supporting electrical design, installation, and commissioning for power plants or substations.
Hybrid role. Echo Power’s main office is located in Tennessee; however, this position includes both remote work and field‑based support. Candidate should live within one hour of a commercial airport.
Pay & Benefits- $99,000 – $146,000 annual salary (based on education and experience)
