Location and Travel

This is a remote position; however, preference will be given to candidates located in Austin, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Atlanta, GA, Reno, NV, Grand Rapids, MI, or Las Vegas, NV. This position may require periodic travel to the locations listed above for site visits, project meetings, and team collaboration.

Position Summary

The Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer will serve as a technical leader and Engineer of Record (EOR) while also managing and growing our mechanical engineering team on mission‑critical data center and large‑scale infrastructure projects. May be involved in developing budgets, estimating labor, material, and costs.

This individual will be responsible for leading design efforts and overseeing project delivery. The role requires deep technical knowledge of mission‑critical HVAC, cooling, and mechanical infrastructure systems, as well as a proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through design, coordination, and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a leader of authority with expert‑level knowledge. Plan, organize, and guide projects and subordinate employees.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical design on data center projects. Makes authoritative decisions and recommendations.
  • Lead the design and engineering of HVAC, chilled water, and other mission‑critical cooling systems.
  • Develop, review, and approve technical drawings, specifications, and submittals.
  • Coordinate with internal design teams and external stakeholders including clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Oversee mechanical design from concept through construction, ensuring quality, accuracy, and compliance with codes and standards.
  • Conduct system analyses, equipment selections, and energy efficiency evaluations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid‑level engineers.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables to ensure on‑time, high‑quality outcomes.
  • Review and seal design documents as required under state licensure.
  • Support business development efforts through proposal writing, client presentations, and technical input.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, with at least 5 years focused on data centers or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required and in good standing.
  • Demonstrated experience acting as Engineer of Record (EOR) for mechanical systems.
  • Strong leadership skills with proven experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
  • In‑depth knowledge of ASHRAE standards, building codes, and energy modeling principles.
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical design software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trace 700).
  • Excellent communication and client‑facing skills.
  • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data center projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency practices.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and field inspections.
