Position: Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation) - Squad Leader

If this resonates with you, the Department of Transportation Engineering District 6-0 is on the lookout for a Senior Civil Engineer Supervisor (Transportation) - Squad Leader to strengthen our esteemed team. In this pivotal position, you will play a key role in the planning, design, and implementation of highway construction projects across the state.

This role advances PennDOT by supporting the planning and management of a highway design squad within the Plans Unit. The position involves overseeing the functional activities of Project Supervisors, Civil Engineers, Draftsman Designers, and other temporary staff, including the approval of leave, time, and expenses, as well as conducting Employee Performance Evaluations. You will be tasked with developing comprehensive design packages for one or more complex or moderately complex in-house projects, maintaining project data in ECMS, and coordinating design efforts while fostering effective relationships with various Department Units, outside agencies, and public officials to adhere to the established letting schedule.

Additionally, the role includes obtaining necessary approvals and clearances, monitoring project costs throughout all phases, and preparing reports to adjust project funding as needed. The individual will also guide subordinates in creating design packages for less complex projects, conduct preliminary and final plan reviews to ensure compliance with design criteria, and represent the Plans Engineer at public meetings and other relevant functions.

Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia.

    The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
Special Requirement
  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.
Other Requirements
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
