We are seeking a senior‑level Project Manager / Team Leader to lead climate resilience planning projects while also managing and developing a high‑performing team of environmental planners.

This role combines technical leadership, project management, and people leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in climate resilience planning, strong stakeholder coordination experience, and proven ability to lead both projects and staff. This is a high‑impact role supporting critical infrastructure, ecological restoration, and redevelopment projects while expanding internal permitting capacity and strengthening team performance.

Candidates may be based in the Boston, MA area, Providence, RI, or Manchester, NH. This position requires two days per week reporting to our Boston, MA office, where the majority of our climate resilience planning team is based.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of environmental planners; mentor and develop junior staff while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and safety‑focused team culture
  • Manage workload of the environmental planning team, including scheduling, managing indirect time, and maintaining visibility into project work available and committed
  • Lead planning analysis activities (e.g., GIS/desktop analysis) and stakeholder engagement tasks, with a particular emphasis on climate resilience.
  • Lead the production of high‑quality, graphically rich planning deliverables
  • Complete initial QA/QC reviews of deliverables produced by junior staff
  • Collaborate with staff and synthesize expertise from multiple disciplines, including planning, engineering, environmental sciences, and landscape architecture, to develop technical solutions to climate resilience challenges
  • Effectively manage project tasks and monitor project financials, risk, and progress; implement corrective actions to maintain profitability and successful outcomes
  • Help develop technical scopes and fees for planning‑related proposals and support business development through contract negotiation, client presentations, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Help establish and maintain relationships with current and potential clients and teaming partners
  • Contribute to increasing the visibility of Fuss & O'Neill through participation in professional organizations (e.g., APA) and external events (e.g., regional conferences)
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s or Masters (preferred) degree in Environmental Planning or in a related field
  • AICP (preferred) or similar professional license/certification (e.g., PE or RLA)
  • Typically requires:
    • At least 8 years of experience in climate resilience planning, including knowledge of climate vulnerability assessment approaches and subject matter expertise in climate resilience planning (e.g., adaptation of low‑lying roads, riverine corridors, coastal environments)
    • At least 2 years of experience independently managing climate resilience projects
    • The ability to facilitate/co‑facilitate community engagement activities and clearly communicate climate resilience concepts and alternatives to clients and members of the public
