Overview

Job Description McCormick Taylor is seeking a Structural Engineer/Bridge Inspection Team Leader with a minimum of 5 years of bridge design experience to join our Exton, PA office. The primary duties of the Structural Engineer are to perform bridge safety inspections, structural analysis and prepare design calculations for various transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and PennDOT specifications and standards.

Other DOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission experience is an advantage but not required. Qualified candidates should have a diversified knowledge of bridge safety inspection, engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to bridge design; geotechnical/foundation design, substructure design, superstructure design, and retaining and noise walls.

Responsibilities
  • Perform bridge/culvert safety inspections in accordance with PennDOT and Federal Standards
  • Performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects
  • Perform detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
  • Develop structural drawings, construction details and geometry layouts
  • Prepare quantities and engineering cost estimates
  • Provide internal quality control to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability
  • Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary
  • Mentor junior staff and coordinate structural work with our project disciplines
  • Work will be hybrid in-office/work from home environment, with some field work and travel required
Job Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience on transportation projects
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure preferred, F.E. required
  • PennDOT Certified Bridge Safety Inspector required, NHI certification beneficial
  • Proficient with PennDOT BMS2, iforms and NBIS inspection requirements
  • Experience in all aspects of bridge design and bridge rehabilitation
  • Experience in bridge load rating
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software including a thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and PennDOT design and construction specifications/standards
  • Proficient with Micro Station or AutoCAD
  • Open Roads and Open Bridge experience beneficial
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skill
  • Must be able to independently manage project tasks
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
