Science | Service | Sustainability Rural Water Assistance Coordinator III

Under limited supervision, the Rural Water Assistance Coordinator III serves as the technical lead (advanced knowledge) for the Bureau of Water's Office of Rural Water. Assists and leads efforts in building collaborative partnerships and seeking innovative solutions to address long standing compliance issues with rural water and wastewater systems.

Job Duties
  • Performs site visits and works collaboratively with rural water and wastewater systems and with partners to facilitate solutions to problems and assist with maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Provides technical, managerial and/or financial technical assistance to rural water and wastewater systems, to include assisting with managing government grant programs.
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Section's drinking water pressure monitoring and other equipment. Serves as the Section's training coordinator for the equipment and disinfection procedures. Assists with well disinfection training and oversight accordingly. Identifies focus areas for assistance.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor (training other staff, special investigations, field activities).
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and one (1) year of environmental health or related experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and two (2) years of environmental health or related experience.
  • OR an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and four (4) years of environmental health or related experience.
  • OR a high school diploma and six (6) years of environmental health or related experience.

Note:

Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements
  • Must have valid state driver's license, and ability to operate state-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, bend, stoop, walk across rough terrain, and lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to make visual observations of facilities, samples, plans, reports, etc. The employee shall maintain a good personal appearance.
  • Must have a basic understanding of personal computers and agency standard software.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make presentations in a group setting.
  • May require:
  • Daily travel throughout the state.
  • Occasional out-of-state and overnight travel.
  • Participation on the Environmental Response Team and is subject to on call or call back 24/7.
  • Drinking water and Wastewater License.
  • Experience with Grant work.
  • Experience with Report writing.
  • Experience in the drinking water and wastewater field.
