Job Summary:Responsible for traffic engineering for the geographic Region assigned. Works under the direction of the RTE or the Asst RTE and coordinates extensively with the District Administers and Engineers within the region along with traffic safety and the RSA teams. Exercises some independent engineering judgment within established program parameters, policies and procedures, and is the ADOT traffic engineering liaison as needed.
Typical duties include but are not limited to: review and approval of temporary traffic control for construction projects, maintenance project, and encroachment permits, and to complete a variety of assignments of varying complexity related to transportation operations and safety. Extended hours may be required. Overnight travel may be required.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Job Duties:Review traffic impact analysis (TIAs and TISs) and traffic control, temporary traffic control, signal warrants, striping plans & other traffic engineering needs for encroachment permits. Data collection, such as speed samples, turning movement count data, crash, RSA participation, obtain sight distances for various reviews or studies including No Right Turn on Red, passing intersections review, make observations regarding traffic safety and operations, analyze the data, and prepare memorandums or formal traffic engineering studies as needed.
Prepare work orders for signing, striping, signals, lighting, and maintenance crews, and perform related field reviews including RSAs. Data Analysis, such as perform traffic engineering studies and write reports such as signal warrant, speed, LT, RTOR, passing zone, AICE, signal timing analysis, crash analysis and other traffic engineering related analysis. Review signing, striping, and maintenance of traffic plan sheets for construction projects, and attend project field reviews and partnering/pre-construction meetings.
Review traffic control plans related to encroachment permits. Meet with various stakeholders, including members of the general public, federal or local agency officials, and/or employees internal to the department to resolve traffic safety and operations issues. Prepare related written correspondence.
Knowledge of:
- Basic Traffic Engineering theory and practices.
- Engineering fundamentals such as traffic concepts, mathematics, and basic statistics.
- Knowledge or ability to learn Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- Applicable laws, regulations, standards and specifications.
- Project development, design and construction process.
- Department policies and procedures.
- Oral and written communication.
- Interpersonal relationships and team building.
- Google and/or Microsoft office suites.
- Respond to inquiries and communicate clearly and concisely with a wide range of professional, governmental and public representatives.
- Prioritize own work loads.
- Meet projected target deadlines and gain consensus in group environment.
Degree in civil engineering OR
2 years work experience as a tech or analyst or problem solver preferably with primary focus on traffic…
