Job Overview
The Senior Stormwater Engineer classification primarily performs professional engineering review of private development and City infrastructure projects for stormwater related issues. The position also participates in the management of drainage and flood control studies, manages the City's floodplains, and provides technical assistance to other city departments.
Underfill Position ConsiderationApplicants who do not meet all the minimum requirements for the Stormwater Engineer, Sr. position may be considered for an underfill as a Stormwater Engineer, depending on applicant qualifications. If the position is underfilled, the salary offered would be commensurate with the lower level classification. The minimum requirements and salary range for the underfill position are listed below in the minimum qualification section.
CompensationAnticipated starting salary for this position may be up to the mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. Full salary ranges are provided for both a Senior and an Underfill classification.
Stormwater Engineer – Underfill (Minimum Qualifications)Salary: $93,038.40 – $
Education and Experience:
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution, or equivalent years of education and experience.
- Four years of progressively responsible project coordination experience in storm water, drainage, and hydraulics/hydrology.
- Any equivalent combination of education and / or job related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration, or by the technical board of another state with the ability to obtain Arizona Registration through reciprocity within 6 months of employment.
- A Certified Floodplain Manager credential from the Association of Floodplain Managers is required within 18 months of hire.
- Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

- An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
