At DEME, you help shape projects with real impact. Whether you’re reviewing designs, walking through a vessel under construction, or visiting one of our sites worldwide, your work directly contributes to safer and more innovative operations across our fleet.  Guided by our values We care, We dare, We deliver, we encourage you to take ownership of your career. We support lifelong learning and give you the space to grow in a way that matches both your ambitions and the needs of our global projects.

Within our Safety by Design (SBD) team, you’ll join a small, highly technical group that looks at engineering from another angle: ensuring every vessel and installation is designed with safety, accessibility and maintainability in mind — from the first sketch to the final build.
As a Technical Engineer - Safety by Design, you assess and improve the ergonomic design and technical safety of both newbuild and existing vessels and installations. You translate 2D plans into 3D insights, challenge project teams where needed and ensure all designs meet DEME’s Safety by Design standards.### Your responsibilities
* Work closely with the SBD team and project management on newbuilds, conversions, repairs and replacements.
* Advise on accessibility, ergonomics and maintainability, reviewing whether designs comply with SBD requirements.
* Carry out on-site safety and ergonomic assessments — worldwide, and usually for short, focused visits.
* Translate your findings into clear recommendations integrated into the design & build process.
* Collaborate with engineering teams, ship owners, managers and crews to reinforce a strong safety culture across all activity lines.
* Use drawings, sketches or 3D visualisations to bring your ideas to life and help others understand the proposed improvements.###

Your profile
* A degree in engineering, construction, technical design, maintenance or a related field.
* Solid professional knowledge of metalworking, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics and electricity — this is essential.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to think beyond the obvious.
* Excellent spatial awareness: comfortable interpreting 2D plans and imagining 3D structures.
* Accurate, detail‑oriented and able to work independently.
* Clear communicator in both Dutch and English.
* Collaborative, diplomatic and able to work with a variety of profiles — from engineers to crew members.
* Willing to travel worldwide for short periods, depending on project needs.### Our offer
* A comprehensive mobility program that supports work-life balance.
* Continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
* A dynamic, innovative environment with real opportunities for growth.
* A people-centric culture with a strong focus on wellbeing and health initiatives.
