Sr. to Staff Electrical Engineer - Autonomous Robotics
Oakland, CA (you can work from home up to 1x/week)
You would be joining an elite group of about 60 people and 20 engineers inside a much larger public company. This org operates as a small, fast-moving hardware innovation lab: minimal bureaucracy, real build/test cycles, and ownership of systems that ship and operate at a very large scale.
In this position you would own the end-to-end electrical architecture, including high-speed digital design (PCIe, DDR, multi-gig SERDES), PCBA development, RF integration (Wi‑Fi, LTE/5G, GNSS, RADAR, LiDAR), power systems, and EMI/EMC compliance through production. This is a deeply technical role for someone who can operate at both system and circuit level, drive hardware from concept to manufacturing, and lead cross‑functional execution across robotics, firmware, and mechanical teams.
The company is targeting a salary range of $200‑250k, plus RSUs translating into total first‑year compensation of roughly $300‑450k.
Job Responsibilities- Designing and developing electrical systems for a complex mobile robotic platform from concept through production.
- Owning PCBA development including schematic capture, stack‑up definition, layout guidance, impedance control, and design‑for‑manufacture.
- Driving RF integration (Wi‑Fi, LTE/5G, GNSS, Bluetooth, RADAR, and LiDAR), antenna placement, layout constraints, and signal integrity.
- Developing and reviewing cable harness designs, connector selection, grounding strategy, and environmental robustness.
- Collaborating closely with mechanical engineering on board packaging, thermal management, vibration resistance, and environmental sealing.
- Defining and implementing power distribution architecture, battery interfaces, protection circuits, and system monitoring.
- Ensuring compliance with EMI/EMC and regulatory requirements (FCC/CE) (CISPR‑25 and FCC Part 15 Class
A). - Supporting prototype builds and bring‑up, debugging hardware/firmware interface issues, root‑cause failures, and driving corrective actions quickly.
- Establishing design standards and performing detailed design reviews across the EE team.
- Working cross‑functionally with firmware, robotics, systems, manufacturing, and reliability teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong experience as a Senior Engineer in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or industrial automation.
- Comfort and passion for working in fast‑paced, hands‑on environments.
- At least 5 (the more the better) years of experience designing complex embedded hardware systems.
- Hands‑on engineer who enjoys building and shipping real hardware.
- High‑speed digital circuit design and layout experience.
- Comfortable working in fast‑moving, cross‑functional teams.
- Advanced multi‑layer PCB design and stack‑up planning.
- Deep understanding of signal integrity and power integrity fundamentals.
- Proven RF integration and antenna design considerations.
- Practical experience with cable harness and interconnect design.
- Experience designing EMC/EMI input and output filters.
- Experience taking hardware products from concept to production.
- Experience with mobile or ruggedized systems operating in real‑world environments.
- Strong debugging and lab bring‑up experience.
- Strong systems intuition with attention to detail.
- Pragmatic decision‑maker balancing performance, cost, and reliability.
- Strong communicator and technical mentor.
- VNA and Spectrum Analyzer experience.
- Familiarity with safety‑critical or high‑reliability systems.
- Experience with high‑voltage battery systems.
- Experience with environmental, vibration, and regulatory testing.
- Background working with contract manufacturers and NPI processes.
