Position Overview
Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location. For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.
This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
Position SpecificsThe Department of Physics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking to fill a postdoc position in the areas of superconducting hybrid devices involving superconductors with graphene and topological thin film materials.
Responsibilities- Lead thin film synthesis, device fabrication, and transport measurement of devices involving superconductors interfaced with graphene, topological materials, and other 2D systems.
- Fabricate superconducting thin films using a HPCVD process and perform nanofabrication for device development.
- Conduct low‑temperature and high‑magnetic‑field transport measurements.
- Apply knowledge and experience in topological superconductivity, quantum materials, and superconducting devices.
- Preferred technical experience in epitaxial growth of thin films using CVD; additional expertise in pulsed‑laser deposition, sputtering deposition, photo‑ and electron‑beam lithography, and low‑temperature transport and superconductivity measurements is appreciated.
- Ph.D. in Physics, materials or device physics.
- Experience with epitaxial growth of thin films using CVD.
- Strong understanding of topological superconductivity, quantum materials, and superconducting devices.
- Knowledge of pulsed‑laser deposition, sputtering deposition, lithography, and transport measurements at low temperatures.
Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
