Processing Engineer; Plating, Heat Treating, Anodizing

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS), a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, seeks a Processing Engineer at its Torrance, CA location.

Location:

3000 W Lomita Blvd., Torrance, CA 90505, USA (On-site).

Job Schedule:

Full time.

• Develop, optimize, and monitor plating processes including electroplating, electroless plating, anodizing, and surface preparation.
• Support daily production operations by troubleshooting process issues, investigating root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure heat‑treat processes comply with NADCAP certification requirements and the BU Heat Treat manual.
• Maintain compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards related to chemical processing and plating operations.
• Evaluate and qualify new materials, chemicals, and equipment for plating applications.
• Perform chemical analysis and control of plating baths to maintain consistent process parameters.
• Utilize SPC charts and maintain/improve process documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and process control plans.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plating quality, throughput, and cost efficiency.
• Educate operators about plating procedures and best practices, including training materials.
• Collaborate with R&D, quality, and manufacturing teams to support new product introductions and process qualifications.
• Actively participate in, promote, and comply with all EHS programs and policies.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Highly organized; able to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present training material clearly; proficiency in English.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Basic Requirements

• Minimum 3 years’ engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy or a related technical discipline.
• Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not available.
• Position is subject to ITAR, requiring U.S. person status.

Preferred Qualifications

• Plating, heat‑treat, chemical, or metallurgical experience.
• Experience with environmental regulatory compliance.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes to produce fasteners.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to work on site in Torrance, California; remote work not considered.
