Position OverviewThe Automation Technician supports and enhances industrial automation systems across U.S. manufacturing facilities. The role involves programming and troubleshooting PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and other automated equipment. The technician will execute system modifications, update firmware, guide contractors, and contribute to cybersecurity initiatives. This remote position is ideally located in the Evansville, Indiana area, with up to 40% travel to plants in the U.S. and Canada, plus an occasional on‑call rotation.
Key Responsibilities- Program PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems (primarily Rockwell products).
- Troubleshoot PLCs, SCADA, VFDs, instruments, and networks.
- Support operations by modifying sequences, recipes, and other process controls.
- Assist engineering during process modifications.
- Travel to facilities to assess equipment, modify systems, or calibrate instruments.
- Plan and guide contractors during system modifications, such as adding instruments or replacing obsolete components.
- Participate in continuous improvement of networks and cybersecurity.
- Stay current with new products and processes.
- Plan and conduct system migrations while minimizing shutdowns.
- Migrate systems and update firmware.
- Pole classing system.
- Cybersecurity system deployment.
- Complete SCADA migration.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in manufacturing automation.
- Programming knowledge of LADDER, FUNCTION BLOCK, and SFC.
- Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent knowledge of industrial processes.
- Ability to read and understand P&.
- SQL knowledge is a plus.
- Knowledge of wood product industry processes is a plus.
- Valid passport for travel to Canada.
